Here, you can access extensive leisure opportunities in the North Country’s lakes, streams, hills and forests. Fish for trophy brown trout in the crystal clear West Canada Creek. Walk, bike and cross-country ski the Trenton Greenbelt Trails, white-water kayak Fish Creek, and paddle or water ski on Hinckley Reservoir.

The annual snowfall in Boonville ranks it among America’s snowiest places, making it the perfect place to snowmobile, sled, snowshoe, ski and enjoy the excitement of the Boonville Snow Festival. More than 31 miles (50 km) in length, the Black River Environmental Improvement Association (BREIA) Trails offer one of the largest groomed cross-country ski systems in the east. Ski and snowshoe rentals are available at the Boonville Search and Rescue hut located at the far right side of the shopping plaza on Route 12 in Boonville. In the summer months, the trails are perfect for hiking and mountain biking.

Boonville delights with its old-fashioned charm at the Black River Canal Museum and is home to the Boonville-Oneida County Fair, featuring the region’s robust agriculture industry for 132 years. Every August, the population of Boonville swells as it welcomes tens of thousands to the New York State Woodsmen’s Field Days—New York’s premier forestry, lumberjack and lumberjill event. Watch the country’s top professional axe men and women compete for top honors in team and individual events.

Remsen has rich history and culture to explore, such as Revolutionary War hero Baron von Steuben’s home and resting place—Steuben Memorial State Historic Site. The Soda Fountain—a family-friendly 1950’s themed destination diner is a year-round hit for classic diner dishes and ice cream creations. The Remsen Barn Festival of the Arts, held annually in September, is a juried art festival that pays homage to the community’s Welsh heritage

Life in a small town. Spend some time in the Queen Village of Camden. Tour the Carriage House Museum. Visit Mystic Stamp, founded in 1923, the largest stamp dealer in America. They buy, sell and trade some of the greatest rarities in philately (the study of stamps, postal history and other related items). Enjoy a picnic in Forest Park, 117 acres perfect for biking, running or walking.
