The City of Rome and the Rome Waterways and Trails Advocacy Group (RWTAG) are hosting a public downtown Rome block party on July 11, 2024 from 4pm-8pm to welcome over 500 cyclists and volunteers travelling through Rome as part of the Cycle the Erie Canal Tour hosted by Parks and Trails New York.
For the last 20+ years, Parks and Trails New York has been coordinating an eight-day bicycle tour from Buffalo to Albany, with Rome as one of its overnight stops. Hundreds of cyclists and a full support crew camp out on the lawn of the Fort Stanwix National Monument or opt to stay in one of our hotels. The block party is designed not only to celebrate the arrival of the cyclists to Rome, but to bring the Rome community and visiting cyclists together for an entertaining evening.
The Cycle the Erie Welcoming Block Party will include live music, local food and beverage vendors, local artist vendors, and community information tables. W. Dominick Street will be closed from James St. to George Street from 3pm-8pm to facilitate the event, however there will still be ample parking around W. Dominick St., including the new public parking lot on the corner of Liberty and James St.
