Few people appreciate warm weather like those who live in upstate NY. All it takes is a 60-degree day in May for us to break out our summer outfits and spend the entire day outside. And since our summers are a bit a short (and because last year was so weird), we’re learning that there is plenty to do this summer in Oneida County. We’re breaking this blog down into three categories: Weekly Summer Events, Golf Courses & Farmer’s Markets. Check it out below to start making your plans with friends and family!

Golf
Did you know there are over 25 public golf courses in Oneida County? We have a wide range of both 9-hole and 18-hole courses that cater to beginners and even pros. As a golfer myself, I’ve learned that it’s a great way to get outside and get fresh air while also doing something fun with my friends. Here’s a list of a few courses scattered around the area that cater to golfers at any ability:
Valley View (Utica) – 18-hole city-municipal course designed by Robert Trent Jones with beautiful views of the city and valley.
Barker Brook (Oriskany Falls) – 18-hole course with natural beauty and greens that are second to none! A public course with private conditions.
Rome Country Club (Rome) – A Golf Digest rated Four Star 18-hole public course. Originally designed by the late Geoffrey Cornish, you’ll find his trademark undulating greens at quick speeds.
Crystal Springs (Vernon) – A 9-hole scenic golf course with rolling hills and country views. Don’t forget to stop by the tiki bar and driving range!
Hidden Valley Golf Club (Whitesboro) – An 18-hole course that will challenge even the experienced golfer while providing a serene setting. Check out their weekly food specials in the clubhouse!
If you’re looking for more of a challenge, we highly recommend any of the five courses at Turning Stone. On site are three 18-hole championship courses and two 9-hole courses. All three 18-hole courses were recently named in Golf Digest’s Editor’s Choice: Top 50 Golf Courses in the U.S. Each course is immaculately designed and cared for and will provide stunning scenery and a challenge! Take advantage of their golf dome, superstore and driving range when playing.
