Or that the first section to open connected Rome to Utica? Now’s your chance to highlight the beauty, history, and adventure that the Erie Canal inspires. We’re inviting participants to capture the beauty of the canal and the many ways that it can be enjoyed, explored, and celebrated— whatever that looks like to you.

From the peaceful trails and historic locks to charming canal-side communities, the Erie Canal in Oneida County is rich with stories waiting to be told through your lens. Maybe you’ve photographed a stunning sunset along the canal, the vibrant fall foliage reflected on its waters, or bikers, kayakers and runners enjoying its scenic trails.
